Cookworthy compares grocery prices across stores. It is a small, invite-only beta. This page explains what we collect, why, who helps us run the service, how long we keep things, and what you can ask us to do. Questions or requests: Privacy Requests, info@getcookworthy.com.
We don't sell your information, show ads, or share anything with the stores whose prices we compare.
What we collect and why
Your account
Sign-in is handled by Clerk. We keep your Clerk account id and your verified email address, so your lists and settings follow you between devices and so price-alert emails reach you.
Things you save
- Your shopping lists, saved lists, and the items in them.
- Your settings: the cities you shop in, stores you exclude, and loyalty programs.
- Price alerts, and the alerts they have triggered.
- Recipe ratings and favorites.
When you build a list from a recipe, our server fetches the recipe page you paste to read its ingredients.
Feedback you send
The feedback button saves your message, the page you were on, and your account id. We also email it to ourselves and may copy it into a private issue tracker (GitHub) so we can act on it.
How search is used, to improve it
To find where search fails, we record searches in the add box, the price-alert box, and the meal-plan preview: what you typed, what we showed, and what you did next (picked a product, chose a meaning, edited your search, or gave up). These records are not linked to your account. They carry only a random id that lasts until you close the browser tab. We don't record your IP address or device.
They are deleted after 90 days. Before then, a search that failed may be reviewed and kept, as bare search text with nothing linking it to anyone, to test future search changes. Searches that look like personal information are never kept. If your browser sends the Global Privacy Control signal, we don't record your searches at all.
Server logs
Our hosting providers keep standard request logs, such as the pages requested and the address they came from, for a limited time to keep the service secure and working. We don't use them to follow individual people.
Stored in your browser
- Your account id and email, so the app knows who is signed in.
- Whether you dismissed the feature tour.
- Clerk's sign-in session cookies.
- The random search id described above, which is cleared when the tab closes.
- A copy of the app's files, so it loads quickly and works as an installed app.
There are no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Who helps us run Cookworthy
- Clerk: sign-in and account management.
- Railway: our server and database.
- Vercel: hosting for the website.
- Resend: sending price-alert and feedback emails.
- GitHub: a private issue tracker for feedback.
These providers operate in the United States, and our database is hosted there. Your information may therefore be stored and processed outside Canada, where the law may allow authorities to access it.
How long we keep it
- Account data and things you save: while your account exists.
- Search records: 90 days, as described above.
- Feedback: until it has been dealt with and no longer needed.
- Server logs: for the provider's standard log period.
If you ask us to delete your account, we delete your account data and the things you saved within 30 days.
Your choices
You can ask to see, correct, or delete the information we hold about you by emailing Privacy Requests at info@getcookworthy.com. Search records can't be looked up by person, because nothing links them to you; they are deleted after 90 days.
If you're not satisfied with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, or the Information and Privacy Commissioner for Alberta or for British Columbia.
Changes
If we change what we collect or how we use it, we'll update this page and its date before the change takes effect.
